Where Do We Start?

Let’s look at the basic maths:
First of all there is a standing charge for electricity and gas in the UK. As of January 2023, for me, this stands at:
- Electricity: £39.08/day
- Gas: £25.56p/day
This has gone up massively in the last 12 months, but needless to say you pay this whether you use any gas or electricity and it is basically a tax on simply having access to the energy services.
So for us, this means for 30 days:
- Electricity: £11.72 standing charge
- Gas: £7.67 standing charge
- Total: £19.39 for a month (based on 30 days)
Looking at the period 21 Nov 2022 to 20 Dec 2022, we used £1080.2 Kwh @ 50.63p/kWh in electricity. But there was an Energy Price Guarantee of 17.00p/kWh which discounted £183.62
For the same period, we used 2874.9 KWh @14.02p/kWh, so £403.10, but again there was an Energy Price Guarantee of 4.22p/kWh which discounted £121.21.
VAT is also added to energy costs (I thought VAT was only meant to apply to non-essential items
